Inara-esque dress

I like Inara’s dresses and decided to use two patterns to create a look sort of like hers.  New Look 6571 and New Look 6349.  The combination of these two together looked to me like something Inara might wear.

The chiffon is a wild, animal print with flowers and the underdress matches the reddish accent color in the pattern.

As I worked, I was reminded of how much I dislike chiffon.  What worked?  Using pins every half inch on the fabric to keep it in place.
